HIPAA TRAINING
MALWARE
This short HIPAA training program (~6.5 minutes) consists of 2 short videos, an interactive slide covering the types of malware, and 4 quiz questions. The questions test on and reinforce lessons in the video. The module can stand alone as a short awareness piece or be fused with other topics in a longer security awareness training program.
Malware is a general term for harmful programs and code. There are many forms of malware, including viruses, Trojan Horses, worms, ransomware and spyware. All it takes is for one unsuspecting person to create an opening, and malware can infect an entire network.
A recent study found that malware was the most frequent form of cyberattack facing both large and small businesses. The total costs of remediating such attacks range from $55K for small businesses to almost $1 million for larger companies. These cost estimates include the rebuilding of necessary IT security infrastructure, business downtime and lost opportunities as well as costs associated with repairing the damage done to the company’s reputation.
While solid anti-virus software can help, it won’t catch all attacks as new strains of malware evolve rapidly. The best way to stay safe is to be on guard to the warning signs of a malware attack.
Our HIPAA training program on malware first provides an overview of what malware is and why it is dangerous. The course then discusses how most malware requires human action to infect a computer and how people can avoid malware.
The more aware and vigilant the workforce, the fewer individuals who might do something careless and the more individuals who might detect a malware attack early on and reduce the risk of a full assault on company data.
