Maryland Online Data Privacy Act Whiteboard
This whiteboard is a 1-page overview of Maryland’s Online Data Privacy Act, a state consumer privacy law that will become effective on October 1, 2025. The full text of the Act is here. The law has several unique dimensions that diverge from other state consumer privacy laws. The law has a stringent data minimization provisions that restrict data uses beyond those necessary for providing a particular product or service. For personal data, such uses require consent. For sensitive data, these uses are prohibited, even with consent.
Professor Daniel Solove has created an illustrated whiteboard to summarize this Maryland privacy law in just 1 page. The whiteboard covers the scope of the law, definition of personal data and sensitive data, individual rights, responsibilities for data processing, and enforcement. The whiteboard is a great way to learn about the law in a visually engaging and memorable way. Along with our other whiteboards, this whiteboard enables you to compare and contrast Maryland’s consumer privacy law with the consumer privacy laws of other states.
