Turkey’s data protection law is called the Law on the Protection of Personal Data – or LPPD for short. The LPPD was adopted on March 26, 2016 and came into force the same year. Turkey protects the fundamental right to privacy in its Constitution. The LPPD expands on this right. The LPPD was influenced by the European Union’s Data Protection Directive, which was replaced with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
