Is it possible to govern AI? How?
Watch my discussion with Shoshana Rosenberg about AI governance. Rosenberg is a partner/practice lead/AI director at OlenderFeldman LLP and founder of SafePorter, a privacy design feedback platform. She’s also a co-founder of Women in AI Governance.
We discuss:
- What is AI governance?
- Who is responsible for AI governance? Who should be responsible?
- AI governance is a team project. Nearly every department is involved with AI.
- Vendors use AI, so it’s important to focus on vendors, having good vendor management.
- There are difficulties governing AI because AI is everywhere these days and is not just involved in new software. It’s being incorporated into existing software, services, and platforms.
- Corporate upper management sees risks and benefits differently. AI governance officials must translate ethical considerations into a language that will resonate with upper management. Professionals in AI governance need a kind of Rosetta Stone to help them make the business case.
- Enlisting the help of different personnel at a company (such as the marketing department, etc.) can help better align AI governance with the goals of the company.
Rosenberg is the author of Practical AI Governance: Building a Program for Oversight and Strategy (2026).
My blurb of the book: “Practical AI Governance is a comprehensive, practical guide for how companies can thoughtfully and responsibly address the complexities of AI. Shoshana Rosenberg writes with passion, experience, and wisdom. This book is essential for any executive or board member that must navigate today’s difficult questions regarding AI.”
Another Blurb: “This book captures exactly why Shoshana Rosenberg is one of the most thoughtful and brilliant minds in AI governance today. She has a rare ability to name the structural shifts others sense but cannot yet articulate – and to translate them into practical, disciplined action. The PRISM framework is a breakthrough contribution to the field. It offers leaders a clear, structured way to examine AI through multiple dimensions at once; exposure, strategy, culture, and control, restoring the institutional sight that so many organizations have quietly lost.” ― Kerry Barker, Head of Responsible AI and Governance, Sony Interactive Entertainment and former AI Governance Lead, Google
